Originally
from Savigny les Beaune, Jean-Baptiste Patriarche
created his own wine firm in Beaune in 1780.
Adynamic
young man, his business prospered and he exported
to England, Germany, and Belgium. By the end of
the 18th century, Patriarche wines were being
enjoyed in the whole of Europe, and served at
the table of some of the most influential people
in the world.
Following
his death, Jean-Baptiste's brother Jacques, and
then his nephew Joseph, continued managing the
family company. After a number of changes over
the years, the company became known as Patriarche
Père & Fils in the 19th century.
