February at Caves Patriarche: After Saint Vincent's Day, the Time for Memory

On January 24th, beneath the freezing fog of Les Maranges, 85 Burgundian brotherhoods paraded through the dormant vineyards. From 7:30 am, in the biting cold of dawn, banners were raised, statues of Saint Vincent left their altars, and brass bands struck their first notes. Sixty thousand visitors celebrated one of Burgundy's most beautiful winemaking traditions: the Saint-Vincent Tournante.

This year, the Maranges appellation—Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges, Sampigny-lès-Maranges—hosted this legendary celebration for the second time. Thirty years after the 1997 edition. Fifteen tasting cellars, seven collective cuvées specially crafted for the event, three villages decorated around the theme "Les Maranges en Musique." A resounding success that reminds us that Burgundy knows how to celebrate its living heritage.

At Patriarche, we experienced this 82nd edition as we always do—with pride and emotion. Because since 1780, our House has belonged to those great families who honor Saint Vincent each year, patron saint of winegrowers and protector of vineyard workers.

On January 24th, during the investiture ceremony in Sampigny-lès-Maranges, the Grand Master of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin officially announced the host village for the 83rd edition: Volnay will welcome the Saint-Vincent Tournante on January 30th and 31st, 2027. Forty-one years after celebrating the festival for the last time, in 1986.

Volnay. This name resonates like an elegant whisper across the hillsides of the Côte de Beaune. Exclusive Pinot Noir, 29 Climats classified as Premier Cru, 242 hectares of vines clinging to slopes that face east and southeast. Wines of legendary finesse, of unsettling elegance that tell the story of marly limestone and gentle slopes. The village, nestled against the small mountain of Chaignot, has cultivated for centuries this reputation for producing silky, refined, delicate reds.

While awaiting January 2027, our cellars continue their silent work beneath Beaune. The Volnays, Pommards, Meursaults, Gevrey-Chambertins, Chassagne-Montrachets rest at ideal and constant temperatures in the largest cellars in Burgundy. Five kilometers of vaulted galleries where time does its work without haste. Three million bottles whispering in the protective darkness. Old bottles bearing witness to decades of patient aging.

February reminds us that Burgundy lives to the rhythm of seasons, traditions, and heritage passed down through generations. That behind each appellation lies a community of winegrowers who stand together. That the Saint-Vincent Tournante is not merely a celebration—it is an act of collective memory, a tribute to vineyard work, a celebration of terroir.

And that each bottle we age carries within it this Burgundian story made of patience, solidarity, and passion.
